What's Cooking Wednesday- 9:04The Nevada Table
The health inspector emails ahead now. Once a year.
Since February, some Washoe County kitchens get an email telling them a routine inspection is coming within seven days. We look at exactly how narrow that change is, what the placard in the window actually means, and how you look any restaurant up yourself in about ten seconds.

Nevada already paid your server. Then the screen asks you.
Nevada is one of a handful of states where a tip cannot be counted toward a server's wage, which makes the tip here a genuinely different thing than it is in most of the country. We get into what the law actually says, what the screens are doing to the norm, and where the line sits between a table and a counter.

Smallest cattle herd in 75 years, and we're a ranching state
Beef set a record this spring and the West pays more than the national average. The reason is not really inflation, it is that there are fewer cattle in this country than at any point in about 75 years. We look at the numbers, at what it means at the meat case, and at the odd fact that the price hurting shoppers is the best news some Nevada ranchers have had in a decade.

Hearts of Gold, and the festival's a month out
The Fallon Cantaloupe Festival runs August 28th through the 30th at the 3C Event Complex on Sheckler Road.
